Anemone Drawing Ideas
Thirteen anemone drawings you can copy straight onto paper, from a single bloom to a glass jar arrangement and a mandala. Every one is a clean pencil outline drawn by hand, with no shading and no colour. Pick one, keep it next to you, and copy it line by line.
How to draw a anemone step by step
An anemone looks like a poppy at first glance, but the big fuzzy centre and the collar of cut leaves give it away.
- Draw a circle for the centre. An anemone has a large dark middle, so make it bigger than you would for most flowers.
- Add five or six wide rounded petals around it. Anemone petals are broad and slightly cupped, so let the outer edge curve rather than run straight.
- Fill the centre with small dots and a ring of short lines around the outside of it. That fuzzy dark middle is the most recognisable part of the flower.
- Draw a slim stem, slightly bent rather than straight.
- Add the leaves. Anemone leaves are deeply cut, almost like parsley, and they often sit in a ruff a little way below the flower rather than at the base.
Darken your final lines and rub out the guide circle.
Which anemone should you start with
If this is your first flower
Start with the easy anemone or the bud on a stem. Both face straight at you with nothing else on the page.
If you have drawn flowers before
Try the anemone with a detailed centre, the one with cut leaves or the side view. Each adds one new part without changing the flower itself.
If you want a challenge
The mandala and the corner border are the most detailed. The row of anemones in a field needs several flowers at different heights that still look like the same plant.
What you need
An HB pencil, plain paper and an eraser. A 2B pencil helps if you want darker final lines. Nothing on this page needs a tablet, a light box or special paper, and none of these were drawn with any.
Three things that make a anemone look right
- The centre is too small. An anemone has a large dark middle. Shrink it and the flower turns into an ordinary five petal bloom.
- The centre has no texture. Fill it with dots and add a ring of short lines around the edge. A plain circle looks flat.
- The leaves are too simple. Anemone leaves are deeply cut and sit in a collar below the flower, not flat oval leaves on the stem.
Anemone or poppy
They are easy to confuse because both have wide petals around a dark centre. A poppy has thin crumpled petals and smooth stems with fine hairs. An anemone has firmer, more rounded petals, a larger and fuzzier centre, and a distinctive collar of cut leaves partway down the stem. If your drawing has that leaf collar, it is an anemone.

Questions people ask
What is the easiest anemone drawing on this page?
The easy anemone for beginners. It has five wide petals, a dotted centre and two leaves, with nothing else on the page. The bud on a stem is quicker still.
Are these anemone drawings free to download?
Yes. Every drawing here can be downloaded and printed for personal use, school use or classroom use at no cost. For commercial use, please contact us first.
How many petals does an anemone have?
Usually five or six, though some varieties have more. For drawing, five or six wide rounded petals around a large dark centre is the shape people recognise.
How do I draw the dark centre of an anemone?
Fill the circle with small dots, then add a ring of short lines all the way around the outside edge of it. Those little lines are the stamens and they stop the centre looking like a flat disc.
What is the difference between an anemone and a poppy?
A poppy has thin crumpled petals and no leaf collar. An anemone has firmer rounded petals, a bigger fuzzier centre, and a ruff of deeply cut leaves partway down the stem.
Can children draw these?
The easy anemone, the bud and the three in a bunch suit children around six and up. The mandala and the corner border suit older children and adults.
What pencil should I use?
An HB for the outline and a 2B for the dark centre. That contrast between a light flower and a dark middle is what makes an anemone drawing work.
Are these drawings made by hand?
Yes. Each one was drawn in pencil on plain paper and photographed. They are not computer generated or traced from photographs.
