Draw the shell
In the middle of your page, draw a big dome, like half a circle. Draw a flat line across the bottom. Leave some space on the right for the head. Press lightly so you can fix it later.
▶ Watch this stepThis cartoon turtle starts with a simple dome for the shell, then you add the head, legs and the shell pattern. Watch each step being drawn in pencil, then copy it on your own paper. It works for kids from about age 5 and for adult beginners too.
Copy the dark lines in each step. The grey lines are the parts you already drew.

On the right side, draw a short neck coming out from under the shell and going up. On top of the neck, draw a big round head.

On the head, draw a round eye. Color it dark and leave a small white dot for the shine. Add a pink oval for the cheek and a happy smile at the front of the head.

Under the shell, draw four short legs with round bottoms, two at the back and two at the front. On the left, draw a small pointy tail.

In the middle of the shell, draw a big shape with six sides. From each corner, draw a short line out to the edge of the shell.

Color the shell dark green and the six sided shape light green. Color the head, neck, legs and tail light green and the shell edge yellow. Color the cheek pink and keep the eye dark.

Keep the bottom of the shell flat so the turtle sits nicely on the ground.
Count the sides of the shape in the middle of the shell. Six sides looks like a real turtle shell.
Cartoon turtles look cutest with short, chunky legs.
Trace your drawing with a darker pencil or a black pen so it stands out after coloring.
Change the legs into flat flippers and draw some water around it.
